A Wretch Like Me....

Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. Those words often hang heavy in my mind but leave a sweet taste on my lips. Amazing grace sounds so smooth and the thought is dumbfounding. The second half, "that saved a wretch like me" makes me cringe. I think of how horrible of a person I am and how much a wretch really fits that. The dictionary defines wretch as a person of despicable or base character. I bought some movies two days ago and regretted buying "Mean Girls." While I did want to see it, it isn't something I plan on watching again and again. I took it back and was able to trade it out for something of equal price. I saw Amazing Grace and had seen it and loved it. I think one of my heroes in this life is John Newton. His story is incredible and inspires me. It shows me that no depths of human sin can with hold someone from God's love and that amazes me. To know that someone can turn around from that is so encouraging. I love it. The movie is a favorite of mine but the scenes with Newton in it are my favorites because it just shows an old man with a broken heart for the things he has done but a rejoicing heart because of God's grace. How could someone write a song as powerful as that without having experienced it to the fullest. My Grandpa wanted to make me a graduation gift and so he made me a music/jewelry box. I love it and got to pick out the music. I picked amazing grace because of two reasons, one being that he is someone that has always shown me grace and been an incredible example to me with his life and passion for God's ministry, two being that I have already decided that that song is my lifelong favorite. I never get tired of it and so I want it on my jewelry box. This is a long ramble but I just cannot express my gratitude to John Newton for writing the song but also for being an encouragement to me even though he is dead. I cannot wait to meet that man in heaven. The video I posted above is a favorite version of it by a favorite singer of mine:) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We've no less days to sing to sing God's praise, then when we first begun."

Thats so true. Whenever I hear that hymn I am reminded of how much God gave up for me, and how we didnt deserve it at all. It is my favorite hymn of all time. :)
