Classmates

While I feel silence is a good thing and needed at times, I think it's time I blogged:) Next week is finals and it wraps up my first semester as a freshman. I did duel credit at San Antonio College in high school so the college and the idea of college classes isn't a new thing to me. I have, however, taken this semester differently then when I was in high school. When I was in high school I didn't talk to anyone. I didn't walk away from that semester with a single friend. I went to school, went to class, and then left. I wasn't there to talk to people. I decided this year was gonna be different. I wasn't sure what that would like but I knew it would help that i have quite a few close friends at school and a few in my classes. I've seen God in the history class i'm in. Halfway through the semester the hilarious middle age black lady next to me noticed my purity ring and told me "I just knew you were different but now I know why!" and I was blown away. I don't think I had said much to her before that. We have had a great relationship since. At first I was intimidated by how outgoing she was about her faith. The class is usually silent because it's before 7am when we all sit down, however, T (as she is called) has no fear in telling me all about her faith everyday in that class. She is so much fun and such a great witness. We swap notes and help each other through the class. We went to breakfast one morning and just talked about our families but mainly how God was working in our lives. I love her:) She brightens my life. While she is the only Christian I've become friends with, she isn't the only friend I've made. My sociology class has gotten pretty close. They are a cool group of kids. I'm not a fan of the class but I'm thankful I took because of the friends I've made. In highschool I had people I talked to in my classes but they ended up being what I call "class friendships". In other words, the friendship never leaves the classroom. I've realized that if you want to make an impact into someone's life then the best way to do that is to create a real friendship with them. Finding them on facebook, being in a group project, or even getting their phone number to help each other study does a lot to make a friendship grow outside of class. I have about one or two people in each of my classes that I see around campus and say hi to. Some of them I even keep up with outside of class. I just love that:) Yes, that means I'm home schooled and never had class mates. It is fascinating to me though. I have to say that at times I just feel like sitting there and not talking to anyone. Those days are the hardest to show Christ to my class.....

The semester is about to be over and part of me is sad to see those witnessing opportunities everyday in class come to an end for those individuals but I can't wait to see who God has in my classes next semester. Bring it on God:)
