Unleashing The Lion Chaser

I was talking with a friend of mine over coffee and discussing the future. Discussing what it looks like to not know what your future holds. I am the person that always wants to know what is going to happen. I think thru my day in the morning and always have a plan. I like to have some idea of what my future holds, whether that be school-wise, sports-wise, or just in general. I like knowing. There comes a time though, when I have no clue as to what my future holds. That is a scary thought. Fear rises in me when I think of the unknowns in my life. As I was telling all this to my friend she mentioned a book that she was reading. The book is titled "In a pit with a lion on a snowy day." by Mark Batterson. I have not read the book but she described the premise of it. 2 Samuel 23:20-21 tells of brave and valiant man named Beniah. I have a friend that named their new born boy Beniah. I had never heard of the name but now I know where it came from and I understand why they named him that way. This is what the Bible says about this valiant man:

"Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear." (2 Samuel 23:20-21)

He chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day and killed it. Our fears are like that lion. We could just run away from them but if Beniah had run away then he would not have been a valiant man. He knew what needed to be done and did it despite his fears. I found the book online and read a line that was describing it that stuck out to me. It said "What if the life you really want, and the future God wants for you, is hiding right now in your biggest problem, your worst failure…your greatest fear?" Fear holds you back. Handing over those fears to God allows you to conquer them. Beniah trusted God that he would slay the lion and chased it down despite the danger. I want to be a lion chaser that throws fear at God's feet and chases after the life that God so much desires for me to have. Don't tell God how big your fears are, tell your fears how big your God is.
