Beautiful Yet Empty
I was driving home from work when I passed by a house that i've seen a million times but I started to think about it a little more. This house is very piculiar. My neighborhood is not the nicest neighborhood but its not the dumps or anything. It is a middle class area with hard working people. Well driving down the street you would think this house a tad out of place. It is very fancy looking. It is small but recently the owners completly remodeled it and redid at least the entire outside. It has a Mexican look to it. I'm not even sure how to describe it. one thing that I really like about it is that it has a very fancy driveway cover thingy. Instead of your typical metal flimsy cover it has pillars and a shingled, slanted roof. Well the underside of this roof is so cool looking. It is tiled and has big lights. long lights that cover the whole underside. At night it looks like day light under it. The yard is beautiful with plants and grass that is incredibly green. Its watered everyday. There are plants and a single tree in the yard. The driveway is made of stones and looks gorgeous. Needless to say its a beautiful house and like I said...doesn't really fit in on our street. If that was the end of the story you be thinking "ok...who cares about this stupid house?" Well the weird thing is, no one lives there. There is an owner and you somtimes see someone going in. But no one ever lives there: year round. It seems like such a shame to me to see this house that is so beautiful and elegant go unused. I'm sure its someones winter home or something but I've never seen anyone actually live there. I drive by it everyday. This reminded me of something. There is a verse that talks about our bodies being a temple and a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Well this kind of reminded me of that. What good does it do us to fill our head with knowledge and become "pretty" for God when we aren't using this beauty to furthur His kingdom. I mean these owners spent a lot of money on this house and don't use it. In the same way, God spends time and effort to make us the people He wants us to be and yet we don't use that. We are that beautiful house sitting on the corner that nobody lives in. God doesn't call us to be perfect like this quaint little house, He calls us to live for Him. Just as a house isn't always going to look perfect if it is lived in. But we are constantly working on them. Well if we are in His service then He will constantly work on us.
